Our Progress 7/8/2021

Happy Summer Everyone!

We hope that you are having a great summer and a fun 4th of July! Plenty has happened since our last post.

We have a new team called the Arts and Design team! They will focus on bringing artists and animators onto the team. Members in that team can help environmental educators with the visuals of their lessons and revamp our social media. Additionally, they can create art to post on our social media platforms. Furthermore, we held our very first elections! As our organization expands, we are in need of more people to help us and we want to give our hard working members an opportunity to grow as leaders.

We are pleased to announce our new team:

Environmental Education Heads: Helena Chan and Claudia Reines

Social Media Head: Shalini Ramakrishnan

Technology Head: Cassidy Charles

Arts and Design Head: Cate Korins

Secretary: Alina Xi

Fundraising Head: Josephine Taglialavore

Events Head: Shreya Nara

That’s it for now! We are very excited to see the changes this new setup will bring and where the Green Cause will go in the future. That said, our members are working hard even in the summer and you can expect to hear from us soon!

Best,

Frida Ruiz and Alina Xi

Happy Spring Everyone!

We hope you are enjoying warmer weather and the colorful scenery. It has been officially a year since the origin of the Green Cause. At that time, we didn’t even know how to execute our idea. Thanks to your help, the Green Cause was able to expand and gain traction – becoming the large, cooperative organization you see today. To commemorate our anniversary, here are some of our accomplishments that our members and officers worked hard to achieve

  • We have over 50 members participating in The Green Cause! Each member is part of different committees and teams and put their specific skills to best use – whether it be making infographics, maintaining our website, or teaching students.
  • We have prepared and presented environmental education lessons to over 9 different classes from local schools on a variety of different subjects.
  • Our social media presence has grown as well – we are ending our year with more than 140 followers on instagram!
  • Officers and members have presented at over 10 speaking engagements, including for the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

Through the persistent efforts of our members and officers, The Green Cause was able to spread the word about pressing environmental issues and explore different approaches to these pervasive problems.

We are proud of our accomplishments this year, and we expect more to come. Thank you to everyone who supported our cause and we’re looking forward to doing more in the future!

Sincerely,

Frida Ruiz and Bianca Palomino

Our Progress 12/30/2020

Happy Holidays! As 2020 comes to an end, we at the Green Cause have reflected on our progress in the last couple of months, and are proud of what we accomplished. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been doing:

  • 5 memebers will finish with their projects by the end of January 2021.
  • We are currently working on our logo, which will be a tree with “The Green Cause” written on its leaves.
  • We welcome three new hardworking members!
  • We presented in the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation Youth Climate Action Network Webinar
    • 30+ in attendance
    •  Spoke on our experiences with sustainability education and why there’s a need for improvement
  • We participated at the Center for Sustainable Development at The Earth Institute of Columbia University: Reimagining the City for 21st Century
    • Where there was 40+ in attendance.
    • Discussed the gaps in environmental education, what advice we have for educators, and how we are striving to improve public awareness.
  • We are starting a membership recruitment campaign
    • Consisting of contacting over 50 high school districts and institutions to have our promotional content spread on their website and student classroom boards.
  • We’ve collaborated with CivicStory and the NJ Student Sustainability Coalition to help give The Green Cause a bigger platform and provide some training workshops.

As we’ve adapted to the limits of Covid-19, we’ve continued to spread our message of environmental education and awareness through virtual means, making crucial information about pressing environmental issues accessible to everyone. Participation in our initiative has increased, and it shows that our community wants to join in on our mission. Panels, presentations, and different events help us gain exposure and we hope to reach a wider audience of our like-minded peers through our new membership recruitment campaign.

Looking back, the Green Cause has made many accomplishments through the continuous hard work and passion of our members. We hope to achieve more in the upcoming year of 2021, and we are glad that you’re following along on our journey.

Happy New Year!

Frida Ruiz and Athena Zheng

Our Progress 9/17/2020

Hello Everyone!

It’s been a little over 4 months since The Green Cause has formed. Here’s a recap of our progress:

  • We have on-boarded over 20 members, who are either in the researching or lesson making phase.
  • Two groups have finished making their presentations.
  • We have contacted 10 different schools and made a spreadsheet with over 30 teachers
  • Created a this very website
  • We now have an Instagram page!
    • Give us a follow @thegreencause

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, it has been difficult to gain direct contact with certain schools. Not only has it been difficult to coordinate with teachers, but it’s been harder to reach out to other students. That is why we seeked out other opportunities, such as participating in the Youth Development Panel at the International Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD) conference to gain recognition. Our current goals are to further develop the website, contact more schools, and to recruit more members.

In the future, we hope The Green Cause members will be able to present their lessons in person, and we’ll be able to reach out to schools that are further away.

Hope you are interested in seeing what we do next!

Best,

Frida Ruiz and Bianca Palomino
